Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has weighed in on the maritime border dispute between Somali and Kenya.
Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with David Gilmour, the Director of the Office of East African Affairs in the Office of State, Mudavadi said that time has come for the international community to intervene into the matter after Somali President refused to withdraw the case from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
He said that the two nations depend on each other for both political and economic growth hence there is the need for them to work together for the sake of their growth.
He affirmed that the dispute has soiled the relationship between the two nations in the recent patient as characterised by the latest twist of events.
“The international community should not take this matter lightly. Nor should the commercial interests funded by giant oil companies lead to a miscarriage of justice,” he said, as quoted by Capital FM.
He said that failure to resolve the matter is bound to cause instability in Somali as the country seeks to restore its lost glory.
Mudavadi warned, “to abort justice and give this territory away to Somalia will only open up the region to further instability.”
Mudavadi held a series of meetings with different groups of people during his tour in the US. He is out of the country to popularise his Presidential bid before 2022.
