Three police officers have been arrested transporting bhang using a government vehicle.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the three were arrested by a multi-agency team transporting the illegal substance along Garissa-Thika highway.

"68 bales (245 Kgs) of bhang and Sh239,500 cash were today morning seized and three police officers arrested in an operation by a multi-agency team near Kanyonyoo Market along Garissa- Thika Highway. Suspects; PC Japhet Fondo, PC Bob Otieno and APC Michael Mwangi placed in custody," DCI tweeted.

In addition to the bhang, the detectives also nabbed 300Kgs of rice, 100Kgs of beans, and 25Kgs of sugar.

"Also impounded while being ferried using the Govt M/Vehicle (Toyota Landruiser) are; 6 bags of rice (300Kgs) labelled GoK, 2 bags of beans (100Kgs), 6 bags of sugar (25Kgs), contraband milk powder among other food stuffs and laundry assortments. Further investigations ongoing," added DCI

The investigative agency divulged that investigation is ongoing to unearth the origin and destination of the consignment. 

Their arrest comes at a time when the government has declared total war against drugs, corruption, and any other form of impunity in the country.
