A GSU officer who is a suspect in the murder of a mother and her daughter in Katani, Machakos on Thursday confessed to killing the two.
35-year old Purity Wanjiru and her 60-year old mother were allegedly killed by the officer.
According to the Star, the officer Anthony Kilonzo made up his mind to confess to killing the two after being questioned by the detectives who have been following up on the case.
"I was approached by a friend to go help do the job of killing the woman," Kilonzo stated as quoted by the Star.
Magistrate Nzibe nonetheless told the suspect to not to continue with the confession until he had a lawyer.
In addition, Nzibe instructed the suspect to be taken for a mental assessment. Kilonzo will consequently be detained at Kilimani police station for 21 days.
Four people had initially been arrested as suspects in the case.
Another suspect who is alleged to have had a hand in the double murder case was killed during a shoot out with the police on Wednesday.
It is reported that the suspect was the first to fire when the police officers went to arrest him.
DCI Director of Operations Danson Diru said the suspect was at his parents' house which was approximately 800 meters from where the murder incident occurred.
