City lawyer Assa Nyakundi has said he 'has nothing to lose because he lost everything' following the death of his son, who he insists that he shoot him accidentally.
For months now, Nyakundi has remained admitted at Nairobi Hospital over high pressure and is said to be in a confused state following the death of Joseph Nyakundi, his 29-year-old last born.
At Nairobi Hospital on Wednesday, Nyakundi told the Nation that he doesn't care whether he will be thrown to prison, adding that 'there is nothing devastating like losing a son in such a manner'.
“I have never been to a police cell, but if they take me to prison it will not be worse than losing my son in the way it happened,” he told the Nation in his first interview since the incident.
The renowned lawyer added: “There is nothing more to lose at this point. I have lost everything.”
In is preliminary statement, Nyakundi maintained that he accidentally shot his son while keeping the gun safe, a claim which is contradicted by the autopsy report done by government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor.
According to the autopsy, the deceased was shot dead from outside the vehicle at 90° and is believed to have struggled a bit with his assailant.
CCTV cameras also indicate that Mr Nyakundi and his son were nowhere near Runda estate when the incident happened. The prosecutionphone is ready to charge him with murder, an office that would have him imprisoned for life.
Several family members from his Gusii home snubbed Joseph's funeral with some accusing the immediate family members of deciding to bury him at Lang'ata cemetery contrary to dictates of Abagusii community culture.
