According to provisional results from the IEBC, Ayacko has garnered 51, 830 votes, 14, 000 more than his closest rival Eddy Oketch of the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK).

Oketch is second with 37, 709 votes, with only 3 constituencies yet to present their final results.

Oketch has so far only beaten Ayacko in Uriri constituency where he has garnered 14, 291 votes against the former Energy Cabinet Minister's 8, 680.

Uriri doubles up as the homeland to embattled area Governor Okoth Obado who had openly opposed ODM's choice of Ayacko, and is deemed to be in support of his youthful rival.

In Kuria East, the Nation reports that Ayacko had 4, 961 votes against Oketch's 1, 585, and is also leading in his Rongo backyard with 12, 904 against Oketch's 5, 315.

Other candidates in the race are Samuel Hodo of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) band Ogola Ogola (independent) and Peter Jobando of the Green Congress Party.

The area residents went to the polls on Monday to fill the seat which was left vacant after the death of Ben Oluoch Okello.
