Former political detainee Koigi Wa Wamwere has poked holes into the proposal to give serving governors immunity from prosecution.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has proposed the same, arguing that prosecution of serving county bosses results in diversion of attention from service delivery to their constituents.
However, Wamwere on Saturday rubbished the calls, warning that it will see governors develop dictatorial actions while in power, well aware that nothing can be done about it.
He termed Cherargei's proposal an insult to the democracy which he helped fight for, questioning the senator's inability to see the open fact that this will badly affect Kenyans.
"They will be like lions just killing people because they cannot be prosecuted. With 47 dictators we will be completely finished. (Watakuwa kama simba wanaoua tu wananchi maana hawawezi shitakiwa. Tukiwa na madikteta 47 si watatumaliza)," he said.
The former Subukia lawmaker made the remarks in an interview on Nakuru's Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi on Saturday evening.
He also linked the proposal to an initial proposal to make African presidents immune from the law, as a measure to protect them from being prosecuted for crimes against humanity.
"This campaign by governors began during the ICC cases, where it was proposed that presidents be above the law (Kampeni hii ya magavana ilianza wakati wa kesi za ICC wakati ilisemekana marais wawe juu ya sheria)," he added.
At the same time, he blamed Kenyans for making poor electoral decisions, which is now seeing some of the people they elected turning into thieves of public funds.
