Former Lugari member of parliament Cyrus Jirongo has called on Kenyans to pray for the former head of state Daniel Arap Moi. President Moi is battling with medical issues that come with old age and has been in and out of the hospital for a while now.

Speaking on Wednesday night on the 'Pointblank' program on KTN, the former legislator contended that the country was still in need of Moi's wise counsel.

"He is a mzee this country should pray for. We need him to be with us. We need his wise counsel, " the former MP said. (7:29-7:40)

"Former President Moi looked at himself as a shepherd. He understands that leadership is sacrifice and humility. I look at his leadership as a serious example of what we miss today, " Jirongo added.

President Moi led Kenya for more than 2 decades and was credited with bringing about stability with his style of leadership even though his critics say he led with an iron fist some terming him a dictator.

He left power in 2002, paving the way for the NARC government led by Mwai Kibaki.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is a protege of the former head of state, who endorsed him for the presidency in 2002, a move that wrought divisions within the then governing KANU party.
