The job seekers however fail themselves when an opportunity for a job interview knocks at their door.
These job seekers fail to prepare for the interview and end up not being picked for the job.
Some interviewees do silly mistakes that deny them the job opportunity.
Here are things as a job seeker you should never do in an interview.
1. Chewing gum
Some interviewers go into interviews with packets of chewing gum.
They chew gum as a way of reducing anxiety not knowing that it is not proper etiquette to chew in an interview.
Employers often perceive interviewees who chew in interviews as lazy and ill-mannered.
2. Browsing
With the advancement in technology and era of social media, some interviewees or into interviews carrying their smart phones or tablets and use them even when the interview session is on.
It is wrong to carry a phone into an interview room as it portrays a negative picture.
When in an interview room, switch off your phone or tablet and only use it when the interview panel gives you permission to use.
3. Alcohol
Some interviewees carry alcohol to interviews and even go to interviews when drunk.
This habit is common among young graduates who use alcohol as excuse to reduce anxiety not knowing that it is their number one failure.
Never carry or take alcoholic drinks to an interview.
The only thing you can carry to an interview is water but many potential employers provide their own water to interviewees.
4. Shouting
An interview is a professional conversation and as such it requires use of polite and etiquette language.
When in an interview you should never raise your voice.
Always talk and ask questions politely.
5. Carrying newspapers
Some interviewees carry newspapers to interview rooms.
This habit is unacceptable and lowers your chance of being picked as the best candidate.
The only thing you can carry to an interview room is a pen and note book but in many cases, the potential employer provides the pen and book.
