Detectives attached to DCI offices in Nyamira on Monday arrested a top government official over what they termed as 'assault against a colleague'.
Mr Edward Ondigi, the Chief Officer in charge of Finance in Governor John Nyagarama's administration, was arrested on Monday in Nyamira after a complaint from a colleague.
A senior officer who requested anonymity said Mr Ondigi was nabbed for assaulting one Ronald Ondieki, a colleague in the county government.
"It's very true he was arrested this morning and locked at Nyamira Police Station. He is accused of assaulting a colleague, Ronald Ondieki," he said.
A detective from DCIO office confirmed the incident but refused to give more details in connection to Mr Ondigi's predicaments.
"He is in our custody but we are doing investigations. I cannot tell you anything more than that. Just give us time," she said.
Last week, Mr Ondigi was subjected to onslaught by county officials over delay in payment of salaries. He however maintained that he was working under instructions from the governor.
An audio in our possession from the accuser, Mr Ronald Ondieki, points out that the two were briefly at Nyamira Police Station before they opted for out of court settlement.
"He was taken in by the police and we decided to have a settlement out of court. But until now, he's yet to respond. I think something I cooking up but the matter cannot go down unchallenged," he says in the audio.
But despite that, Mr Ondigi claims he has never been to police station and that he was not arrested. He maintains that someone could be out to injure his reputation.
Over 1,000 people reportedly missed salaries for April after being found culpable of irregular recruitment to the county following a payroll audit that was spearheaded by the governor.
