The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reported that the commission performed well during the August 8th general election, a remark that may anger opposition leader Raila Odinga's supporters.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati told a Post Election Evaluation Forum in Nairobi that the fact that the commission dismissed 90 percent of the 300 election petitions is clear indicator that the IEBC did a commendable job during the poll despite the nullification of the Presidential election.
"The commission did well, and we are proud of what we did. Out of the 14,523 candidates we had, only 25 of the 300 that were dissatisfied with the way we conducted the polls succeeded in the courts," he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Chebukati's remark may be genuine but to opposition leader Raila Odinga and his supporters, the statement may sound a mockery as the former prime minister successfully challenged the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta after his (Uhuru) victory was quashed by the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice David Maraga.
Raila successfully contested Uhuru's victory at the Supreme Court over claims of election rigging in Uhuru's favour.
The IEBC called for a fresh poll but Raila boycotted citing lack of credibility.
