Two more people have reportedly died of hunger in Baringo County despite Deputy President William Ruto insisting that Kenya has surplus food.
Addressing the press at Harambee Annex Office Nairobi on Monday, Ruto said no Kenyan has died because of lack of food as claimed by media.
Silale Ward Representative Nelson Lotela, in Baringo county on Tuesday, said that 17 persons from the region have died after they were unable to access food.
He spoke during a relief food distribution in Nginyang', Tiaty, Baringo County,
Two more persons reportedly died in Turkana because of the lack of food.
The legislator noted that the latest victim of hunger was a 60-year-old man who succumbed to death on Monday evening in Loruk.
He said that it is unfortunate that the government has insisted that no one has died of hunger when there are endless deaths being reported not only from the region but also the entire nation.
He also said that he is ready to take government officials to all homes where people have died because of hunger.
“I can take the provincial administration to the homesteads of all the people who have succumbed to hunger, he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Yatya Location Chief Jackson Keitany has also confirmed that a 75-year-old man died of hunger on Sunday evening.
