Police in Kisumu have launched a manhunt for a suspected gang that allegedly attacked the homestead of a former Judge in the county.
Retired Judge Effie Owuor's home in Muhoroni Sub-County was ambushed by the suspects on Saturday afternoon.
According to reports posted on the National Police Service (NPS) social media accounts, the suspects landed on the farm manager George Bengo, attacking him with machetes.
Also attacked was the judge's son Paul Owuor who had accompanied Bengo, but he managed to get away with cuts, while Bengo unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Consequently, police commanders in the entire Nyanza region have been ordered to channel all their resources and efforts towards bringing the suspects to book, especially one who as been identified as Malakwen.
"Nyanza Police Commanders have been ordered to spare no efforts in ensuring that the said Malakwen and his other accomplices in the murder, are apprehended and made to answer for their crimes in accordance with the law," reads the statement.
The NPS has as well requested for citizens cooperation, calling upon anyone with any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspected attackers to share it with the law enforcers.
"Meanwhile, we appeal to the area residents to remain calm as authorities look for the murderers.
"We also appeal to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the wanted murderers to promptly inform the nearest police station," further reads the statement.
Paul was rushed to hospital where he is recuperating.
