Miguna was detained in December, 2017 shortly after he landed in Mombasa to attend the meeting which was being held in a Kilifi hotel.

The former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate had claimed that he was detained after the police got wind that he was on his way to swear in Raila as the people’s President.

The self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) General said he was detained for more than 3 hours until the meeting which was being held at the Sun N' Sand Beach resort was over.

Miguna explained how the police had erected barriers on the roads after he landed and a vehicle from the Mombasa county government was sent to join him as he tried to evade the roadblocks.

When he approached Mtwapa, he was blocked by heavily armed security officers who asked him where he was going.

“The driver who came to pick him up from the airport informed me he had not seen the roadblocks when he was coming for me. Later a huge contingent of officers stopped me.”

“The police officers told me they had instructions not to allow me to proceed to the hotel. There was a bitter argument when they told me to go the Mtwapa police station without telling me why I should go there and I refused. I asked them to allow me walk away after stopping my car or allow me hire another vehicle but they refused,” said Miguna.
