Former presidential candidate Mwalimu Abduba Dida has sounded a warning over Mariga's candidature.
Writing on Twitter after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission cleared the former footballer, Mr Dida warned that electing the former Harambee Stars forward would be the beginning of 'jokers' into parliament.
He wondered why Mariga wanted the people of Kibra to vote for him yet he had never voted for anyone in any election.
" IEBC has finally cleared the young man to run for Kibra parliamentary seat! Mungu saidia Wakenya. A McDonald Mariga win will be the beginning of all sorts of jokers in parliament.
"He has never voted or saw the importance of voting, you are now asking the country to vote for you?" Mwalimu Dida's tweet read.
The blistering criticism carried in the former presidential candidate's tweet is consistent with the criticisms by Mariga's critics.
Mariga's foray into the political arena has not been without controversy as his detractors accuse him of not being politically conscious.
He has also been accused of being the political project of Deputy President Dr William Ruto, an accusation that he has strongly rubbished, saying that the decision to vie was his.
The IEBC's annulment of his disqualification means that he is free to feature in the Kibra by-election slated for November this year unless his candidature is successfully challenged in court.
