Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has reacted to media reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the cancellation of the Kimwarer and Aror Dams project.
In a tweet Wednesday evening, the outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator made an appeal to the head of state in the wake of the cancellation.
Murkomen called on President Uhuru to constitute a representative team to probe other projects in other parts of the country so that certain regions are not profiled.
He said that he was consulting with other leaders from the Elgeyo Marakwet county on how to respond, saying that they will do everything to make sure that justice prevail.
"I urge the President to constitute a transparent team that is national in character to look at all projects in Kenya&that which will not ethnically profile some regions for discrimination.
"We’re consulting as people of EMC&we shall do everything to ensure that justice is done, " the tweet read.
There had been questions raised about the project, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to launch investigations into allegations of corruption.
Among those facing corruption charges over the dam is Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
Uhuru ordered the cancellation over what was described as lack of technical and financial viability.
Top government officials have been accused of undertaking the project with proper prior planning.
