Opposition chief Raila Odinga has recently been holding secret talks with NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) with Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula nowhere in the scene.

It also emerged that Raila is keen on retaining Mudavadi as a close ally than any other NASA co-principal.

But why is Raila no longer interested in Wetangula despite Wetangula's instrumental role in campaigning for Raila and NASA in the larger Western region in the run-up to the August 8 General election?

The former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Minister did not achieve much for the NASA coalition during the polls.

Ford Kenya, Wetangula's party is one of NASA's parties with the least number of MPs in the National Assembly as well as the Senate.

It is also Bungoma County in Western Kenya where President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party bagged the most votes than in any other county.

Going by this statistics, Raila may be convinced that Wetangula has little to add to the NASA coalition and may as well do away with him.

Raila may also use Mudavadi to check Wetangula's influence against him just in case he decides to take another stab at the presidency in 2022, although after a Constitutional amendment to revise the presidential age limit.

Wetangula has already indicated his support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid against the wishes of the NASA fraternity.
