It was pomp and color during the AK/Lotto National Cross Country Championships which were held at Sports club in Eldoret town on Saturday .
The Athletics Kenya (AK) used the event to select a team that will represent Kenya in the World cross-country championship which will be held in Aarhus, Denmark next month.
The event was graced by the Deputy President William Ruto, Governors and Members of Parliament among other dignitaries.
Athletes who finished in the top six positions in each of the four categories were selected to represent the nation in the 43 World Cross Country Championships scheduled for Denmark on March 30.
Among those selected include Amos Kimutai Kirui, Evans Keitany, and Rodgers Kwemoi in Senior Men, Beatrice Chebet who won Women U20 race, Samuel Chebole in the Men U20 and Hellen Obiri, Beatrice Mutai and Beatrice Chepkoech in Senior Women as well as Conselus Kipruto and Elijah Manangoi in the mixed relay.
World 5000m champion and little known Amos Kimutai were the winners of 10km both women and men respectively at National cross country trial in Eldoret sports club.
Hellen Obiri ruled the roost cutting the tape 33.14.9; Beatrice Mutai was second 33.24.3, while Beatrice Chepkoech was third timing 33.54.7
Amos Kimutai was tactical to clock 29.50.9 followed in the distance by Evans Keitany clocking 29.57.4, Rodgers Kwemoi was placed third clocking 29.59.31.
