Boniface Onyango Olela is accused of killing the 3-year-old at Nyandhi Village in Kakumu Kombewa Sub Location at 3pm on Monday inside his house.

The incident was confirmed by area Assistant Chief Philip Ogolla, who said that the man, 32, then fled.

He said that the man had left the main house for his house with the boy for a siesta, but they were not seen by 7:30 in the night, which alarmed his father, the boy's grandfather.

"The old man went to check on to the suspect’s house only to find an unlocked padlock hanging on the door,” he said, adding that on checking, the old man found the boy lying dead.

He said that the old man found the boy covered in a blanket, an incident that was confirmed by Siaya County Commander Francis Kooli, who said that a manhunt has been launched.

Mr Ogolla said that the suspect murdered the boy only shortly after taking him from his mother's home in Moi's Bridge after separating with the woman a month ago.

He added that the suspect's parent ruled out there having been any family issues which might have influenced the murder.

“According to his parents, all was well and the father and son had a very good time,” he added.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Siaya County Referral Hospital morgue pending a pathological test.
