Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu has rubbished claims that the handshake was President Uhuru Kenyatta's way of taming Orange party leader Raila Odinga.
This was in response to her Uasin Gishu counterpart Gladys Shollei's remarks during an interview on Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Tuesday morning.
Speaking on the same platform, Buyu insisted that the truce was reached due to the leaders' desire to salvage the nation from its unrest, after their 2017 presidential contest.
She said neither Uhuru nor anyone else can tame the former Prime Minister, and if that was the intention, Odinga would have kept off the handshake completely.
"Handshake was not to tame Raila, and I don't think anybody can tame Raila, and nobody can tame an adult by the way. Handshake was not supposed to tame Raila and Raila would not have gone into that handshake because he thought the president wanted to tame him," she said.
She further took issue with politicians who have been rubbishing the truce, terming it inconsequential.
Buyu insisted that the truce has gone a long way in enhancing peace, especially among her constituents, in a region known to slide into political unrest after each presidential poll.
"I come from Kisumu and I know what Kisumu goes through after elections. When you tell me that handshake had not made a difference on the grass root, you are lucky that where you come from you have enjoyed peace all your life then," she added.
