The beer enthusiasts had no choice but to make merry after a truck carrying crates of beer overturned in Westlands, Nairobi.
The matatu crew and the locals rushed to the accident scene to grab the beer of their choice in a month negatively identified as Njaanuary for its hard economic times.
“I was alone and trying to give way to another road user, a private car, after which I lost control of the fully packed truck,” the driver of the truck, who only went by the name Dickson, said.
A hawker pointed out that the accident happened on a good day but regretted the arrival of the police who came to deny them the drinks.
"There were not many people and we are wondering why the police have refused to allow us to drink," she said.
Police saved some crates of beer from the crowd that seemed to have a huge appetite for beer.
The police confirmed the incident saying that they were not aware of where the truck was heading nor coming from.
"We don’t have the details of the where the lorry was coming from, taking alcohol or any other details,” the police said.
