The six are said to have attended the burial of the man who had been murdered at the Butula Market two weeks earlier, only to be turned against by angry mourners.

The incident was confirmed by Busia County Commissioner Jacob Narengo, who said that investigations have began into the matter.

It is reported that the crowd became suspicious after the six failed to explain their relationship with the deceased, before accusing them of being part of the group that killed him.

The administrator said that the group suspected that the men might have been behind the murder, and had shortly afterwards stoned them to death.

He added urged Kenyans to shun engaging in such actions, stressing on the need for members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands.

He stated that there are agencies tasked with the role of handling such cases and should be left to do it.

“I urge Kenyans not to take the law into their own hands. There are agencies mandated to deal with suspected criminals,” he told K24 on phone on Saturday.
