There was traffic jam in Nyamira town supermarkets on Monday when several residents thronged supermarkets and retail shops to buy shopping for Christmas celebration.
Some of the residents who spoke to Hivisasa said they could not be left behind to shop because Christmas is an important day.
“Christmas is a day we celebrate to mark the birth of Jesus. It is important for us to buy various foods to eat during the big day,” stated Catherine Ondigo.
Arnold Bosire confirmed that he had set aside Sh5,000 for shopping during the Christmas celebrations.
“I saved Sh5,000 from the tea bonus money which I have used today to buy shopping for my family during this festive season,” said Bosire.
Robert Machuki argued that he travelled from Mombasa to his Manga home for Christmas celebrations.
“I joined my family to celebrate Christmas together. I am spending Sh7,000 for shopping,” noted Machuki.
Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru urged locals to celebrate Christmas in peace adding that locals who will be caught causing mayhem under the influence of alcohol will be arrested.
