Eldoret town seems to have opened up a business venture to the commercial sex workers.
This is evident due to the fact that their numbers have been increasing in the recent times especially towards the weekend and on the eve of public holidays.
It has however not been smooth business as usual for these twilight girls as each day they meet different challenges among them perceived competitors who offer their services at throwaway prices.
According to Anne Njeri, a commercial sex worker along Uganda road, the emergence of the university, college and high school students into the business has threatened what is their investment.
Njeri claims the students offer the service at a relatively cheaper price compared to what they demand from clients.
"Some young girls are now encroaching into our business. It's now becoming difficult to hike the prices. Some of them are even as young as high school students while a majority of them are students at these local colleges and universities," she said.
Rachael Kwamboka, another sex worker in the town revealed that married women too are proving a threat to their business as they are now flooding into the market during the daytime, this according to Kwamboka is when the price is high up.
"Sleeping with a client during the day is very expensive, but instead of us cashing in, these married women come in to interfere and you may end up accommodating less number of client than before," she claimed.
Kwamboka further reveals that though at a minimal rate, they are sometimes harassed by the local security personnel in the area while on their day to day businesses.
