In what could be a justifiable to his trips across the country, Deputy President William Ruto has defended his actions saying he was elected jointly with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
For a couple of months now, Dr Ruto has been struggling to counter attacks from a team of legislators allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta, who accuse him of premature campaigns.
The DP has made numerous trips to Western Kenya, Northern Kenya, Coast and some parts of Nyanza, which are believe to be strongholds of Raila Odinga.
Speaking at Murang'a on Saturday in Uhuru's presence, Dr Ruto said that should Jubilee fail to deliver, it's him who will be blamed by Kenyans.
“He has now reported me to you that I am doing politics. I want to tell you that it is not true. People forget that I took an oath after you, to help you. I will be the first to be blamed if our agenda failed,” he said.
“When our victory was reversed by the courts, many people accused me, asking where I was when our victory was being stolen...” he said.
On Friday at Vihiga, Dr Ruto said that the trips are meant to supervise development projects which are initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“My visits are intended to spread development to all regions,” he said.
“Elections ended in 2017. President Kenyatta and I will work for all Kenyans. We will unite leaders regardless of party affiliation,” he said.
At Murang'a, Uhuru seemed to ignore the 2022 campaigns pushing, arguing that he has nothing to lose when that time comes.
“We shall keep that vow because I personally have no friends other than the people of Kenya,” he said.
