Deputy President William Ruto may be forced to explain reasons behind stalled Ibeno KMTC project which was launched in 2016 in a function which he attended.
In the company of area MP Richard Tong'i and several leaders, Dr Ruto laid a foundation stone at the site where presumably a third KMTC is set to be built in Gusii.
But three years down the line, nothing has taken place at the site, precipitating questions from a section of residents who want answers.
"I hope he will explain to us why it has taken long for the project to start yet he launched it in person. This is quite embarrassing that a project can take those years before commencing," said Peter Orang'i, a Keumbu resident.
"Personally I thought by now the project will be over. It's sad that it's yet to start. The DP should consider telling us why it has taken long. I thought it would expand our local businesses," added Alice Moraa.
On Thursday, Dr Ruto will be attending Kisii National Polytechnic graduation ceremony. It will be his over 20th trip to the expansive Gusii region in as many months.
Over the weekend, former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire questioned Ruto's commitment, accusing him of launching ghost projects.
Besides Ibeno, Bosire questioned the state of Bonyunyu Dam project, Kemera-Keumbu and Kemera-Amabuko roads, which have all stalled despite being relaunched by Ruto.
"He has no capacity to launch projects. We have seen many of them yet to start. We can't allow him to use them to hoodwink our people," he said.
Reached for comment, Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong'i could not answer calls. He's one of the closest allies of Deputy President William Ruto.
