A team of linguists is currently undertaking the translation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report to various local dialects.
Sauti Mashinani Organization which is taking part in the translation exercise revealed on Wednesday that they are targeting at producing10 million copies of the report.
Kiswahili is among the local languages that the report has been translated to.
Once the translation exercise is completed, a civic education on the report will be conducted countrywide while at the same time the report will be distributed to Kenyans at their constituencies and wards.
A guideline on how civic education will be carried out has already been launched.
“We shall start with civic education fora at counties, specifically constituency and ward levels. We shall not coerce the public into taking sides but rather provide with platform to discuss constitutional amendments they need,” Cecilia Ndung’u, a civic educator stated.
“The document has received a wide acceptance but the problem is that its publicity is being led by politicians. We are giving Kenyans an opportunity to read and interpret the document on their own,” she added.
The BBI report has been at the center of politics in the country with many calling for public participation.
President Uhuru Kenyatta announced during Jamhuri Day celebrations that the term of the BBI taskforce will be extended.
