The Deputy President poses as a 'hustler' and is known across the nation for claiming to be one. He is brands himself as a man who fought himself out of poverty. He is self-made, unlike those who depended on their father’s names or connections.

For a man to sell chicken and rise to be the country’s second in command, quite arguably, is laudable. However DP Ruto should use the hustler tag in 2022 for the following reasons:

1.He’s been a leader since 1997

At no time has DP Ruto been in the cold in terms of leadership. His astute political sense has enabled him maneuver through elections, emerging victorious time and again. As he guns for the top job, the term hustler shouldn’t be something he should not associate himself.

2. Many Kenyans are genuine hustlers

With all due respect, there is no hustler who flies in choppers. DP Ruto should use other means to endear to voters who are struggling to feed their families. He should provide Kenyans with ways through which they can make their ends meet on a sustainable basis.

3. Young electorate who have grown watching DP Ruto make headlines

Lastly, a vast majority of youth and first-time voters in 2022 have grown seeing DP Ruto in the news. They do not have a connection to the ‘hustler’ mantra. For one to be a leader, he or she must be 'loaded'. Everybody knows that.
