Prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has opposed government's plan to secure a multi-billion shillings loan from China for construction of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
This is after details emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta has dispatched senior government officials to China to negotiate for Sh370 billion to finance construction of Naivasha-Kisumu stretch of the SGR.
Senior Counsel Abdullahi poured cold water on the plans saying the extension of the popular railway line would be just a waste of money.
In a tweet on Friday, he prayed that the Chinese government may decline the loan proposal to finance the project he termed as "white camel".
"If GOD loves Kenya, he will harden the hearts of the Chinese and make them refuse to finance this project...white camel...not viable," Abdullahi posted.
Government's efforts to borrow more funds has raised eyebrows since Kenya is still repaying Sh327 billion loan obtained from Exim Bank of China to build Mombasa-Nairobi line.
Kenya is yet to start financing Sh150 billion loan used to construct the ongoing Nairobi to Naivasha stretch.
President Uhuru is expected to travel to China next month to finalize the Sh370 billion loan acquisition process, a move that has angered a section of Kenyans.
The Head of State has been accused of "reckless borrowing" since during his regime Kenya's foreign debt has risen to over Sh1.7 trillion.
