Joseph Irungu alias Jowie one of the accused persons in Monica Kimani's murder trial has vowed to appeal the ruling that denied him bail.
Through his lawyer Samson Nyamberi, Irungu says that he will be moving to the court of appeal.
“We are going to appeal the ruling because we believe our client has a right to bail and bond,” he said.
The lawyer said that just like any other accused person, his client is entitled to bail.
“We are not satisfied with the ruling and our next step will be to go to the next court,” he said.
The lawyer, however, said that they will prove to the court that their client is innocent. Jowie was denied bail on grounds that he is likely to interfere and intimidate witnesses.
In his ruling, Justice James Wakiaga further said that Jowie is a flight risk.
The Judge further ruled that Jowie who he described as a ‘man in love with guns' needs close supervision for his security.
“The first accused person needs custodial protection which can only be provided if he is under supervision,” he ruled.
Jowie's co-accused, Jacque Maribe was, however, granted Sh2 Million bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh1 Million.
