A Nairobi-bound bus owned by the Mbukinya bus company has been involved in an accident near the Kinungi black spot.
The bus rolled at a section of the road, leaving 48 injured and one woman dead.
Naivasha Sub-County Deputy Police Commander John Kwasa confirmed the accident, noting that the bus was on it's was to Nairobi from Butere.
He said that investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances of the accident.
The injured passengers were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for treatment.
Speaking to Nation, a doctor from the hospital noted that most of the admitted passengers are in stable condition.
"We received 48 patients and we have managed to stabilise a number of them who are due for discharge," said the hospital’s medical superintendent.
"As per now, majority of the victims are in stable condition but under watch," Dr Angeline Ithondeka told the Nation.
The Kinungi section is notorious for grisly road crashes.
Locals have called on the government to erect guardrails to prevent vehicles using the section from rolling downhill.
"The government should do something quickly about this section of the road. Guardrails should be erected so that cars don roll down, " Gladys Wamaitha, a resident said.
Accidents on Kenyan roads continue to be a big problem, with careless driving contributing significantly to the accidents on the roads.
