West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo has asked leaders to back President Uhuru Kenyatta in the war against graft.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, Lonyangapuo said government projects have failed because of corruption.
He highlighted that in West Pokot, resources are effectively utilised to benefit all individuals, adding that he does not pay his deputy governor because he is not around.
"Corruption is a ‘disease’ we must all fight. We need to unearth it and contextualize it in the manner in which it is happening at the grass-root level. For instance cattle rustling is corruption as it is taking away somebody's property," he said.
"I do not pay my deputy governor a salary. We are working closely with other government agencies to see how to handle such a matter," he added.
On the issue of landslides and floods, the governor urged the national government and other well-wishers to support the families affected in the region.
He noted that so far, 16 bodies have not been recovered following the incident.
"We have been affected by the heavy rains in West Pokot. As of yesterday, 16 bodies have not yet been recovered. 42 bodies have been recovered and burial arrangements are ongoing," he said.
