Speaking during an interview with NTV on Tuesday, Midiwo said that despite the deaths, the government has played its part unlike in the past.

He noted that this is the first time the government has given this kind of reaction during a disaster.

"The death of 60 people is not a small thing; we need to value each and every life. I think, for the first time we are seeing on the spot reaction from the government," he said.

On his part, Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi asked the government to revise its policies as far as climate change is concerned. He noted that more research needs to be done by the government to salvage such situations in future.

"We need to address climate change at a policy level. What are we doing to join the rest of the world in mitigating the effects of global climate change?" he said.

Wamatangi reminded governors of the need to be prepared for disaster. The senator said that the event has revealed that governors are still not well prepared in the event of such calamities.

"The key thing is preparedness, we urge our governors to be prepared for disasters," he added.
