Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi has said that she is yet to receive a notice on the plans to impeach Governor Mike Sonko after he was barred from accessing office over the alleged misappropriation of Sh.357 million from the county government.

On Tuesday, Elachi said that the motion seeking to remove the governor from office has not been tabled at the floor of the house.

The Members of the County Assembly rooting for the motion have maintained that the plan is still on as pledged.

“I have not received any letter indicating an impeachment motion. The grounds have to be valid and be properly written. They also need to know the process cannot happen in a single sitting,” she said.

The speaker also said that the special sitting organized at the county assembly had nothing to do with the discussion of the crisis leadership following the arrest and arraignment of the governor in the court of law.

Elachi affirmed that she will stick to the law after Sonko landed in trouble.

“ Let the objective be clear so that when the discussion comes we don’t get into nitty gritty issues which were not highlighted,” she said.

Sonko has maintained that he is innocent amid pressure from different factions.
