His cabinet colleagues George Magoha (Education), Keriako Tobiko (Environment) and Joe Mucheru of ICT were part of the meeting.

Incidentally, the meeting comes a fortnight after President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Nyanza, a region known for opposition politics given that it's the bedrock of Raila Odinga.

During a recent Kisumu trip, Uhuru and Raila toured the port which has been dysfunctional for a couple of years. The two leaders are keen to see the implementation of key projects in the region.

"My colleagues from the Cabinet, Prof. George Magoha, Keriako Tobiko, @mucheru, and I held a meeting with Nyanza leadership where we agreed to take various steps to expedite the execution of national government development projects in the region," Matiang'i said.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed led the delegation of about 10 MPs from the region. The two are Raila's confidants.

In February, Matiang'i also met the team. Several road projects among them Ahero Interchange are currently undergoing. Matiang'i is in charge of coordination in government.

"Met Cabinet Secretaries Dr Fred Matiang’i, Keriako Tobiko, Prof. George Magoha, and Joe Mucheru together with leaders from Nyanza this morning to discuss ways of fast-tracking the implementation of ongoing national government development projects in the region," Wanga wrote.
