The chairman of Uasin Gishu Gospel Ministers Bishop Wilson Kurui now says the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) report should not go through a referendum.
He says such a move will put the country into an electioneering mood and will divide Kenyans along political and tribal lines.
"As religious leaders from Uasin Gishu County we are against the BBI report going to a referendum since politicians will take advantage and measure their political muscles in the Country thus dividing Kenyans," said Bishop Kurui.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday Kurui said politicians have already politicised the report and giving them a chance to go to a referendum will only increase the enmity between different factions.
"There is nothing much in the BBI report that will force us to go through a referendum. We recommend it to goes through a parliamentary process which is cheaper and will save Kenyans from the huge wage bill that will be imposed to them to fund the process," added Bishop Kurui.
He, however, called on the government to provide more copies of the BBI report to Kenyans noting that it's sad that up-to-now people from the grassroots have not gotten the report.
He says most of the people know of the report through the media.
Bishop Kurui further said the report must be translated into Kiswahili and other native languages for Kenyans to read and understand it.
