This comes after eight cases of murder were reported in the area in a period of three weeks.

The latest incident was the killing of 19-year-old Shareef Odongo who was murdered on Sunday, with locals now calling upon security agencies to intervene.

The form two student at Makunda Muslim School was reportedly killed on his way back home, with locals now blaming the murder on a local ruthless gang.

The incident was on Monday confirmed by area MP Justus Murunga who called upon the offices of the Inspector General of Police and Internal Security Cabinet Secretary to intervene.

"Ondongo is the eighth person to be killed here under similar circumstances. Another student was recently killed in Lung’anyiro. A few weeks ago, a couple was killed by thugs. We are calling on the Inspector General of Police and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to intervene,” said Murunga.

The MP proposed the transfer of long-serving police officers from the area as one of the strategies to curb insecurity in the region.

“Some of the officers have been working here for over seven years and could be colluding with thugs,” he added.

His remarks were echoed by area Woman Representative Elsie Mulanda and Kholera MP Godliver Omondi.

Locals on Sunday held protests in the area in a bid to compel security agencies to come to their aid.
