This was after the girl reportedly exposed her mother by revealing her HIV status to her clandestine lover.

Upon learning of the same, the mother, Caroline Kavele beat the girl up in an incident that happened at their home in Lukuyani Sub County, Kakamega County on December 25.

Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Harrison Barasa was told they the accused committed the offence after her 13-year-old daughter warned her lovers against engaging in sexual activities with her as she was HIV positive.

According to a probation report presented in court, the mother developed a hatred for the girl, blaming her for her failed marriages.

“When we made a home visit, neighbours revealed to us that the offender has led a promiscuous life since she joined the area even though she is aware of her positive HIV status. As a result, her daughter, the victim who is very outspoken and is also aware of the offender’s HIV status has been cautioning her mother’s lovers so as they won’t be infected. Consequently, her mother has developed deep-rooted hatred for her claiming that her daughter is the cause of her failed marriage,” reads the report as was seen by the Standard.

The woman is said to have used sufurias and sticks to assault the girl, causing her deep injuries.

She pleaded guilty and is set to be sentenced on January 16.
