Retired President Daniel Moi particularly, trusted a section of military officers to run errands on his behalf even though they were not in active politics.

Among them were former Chief of Defense Forces General Daudi Tonje, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Lazarus Sumbeiywo, General Mohamud Mohamed among others.

While President Uhuru Kenyatta's predecessor Mwai Kibaki had very little interest in military, he however worked closely with General Jeremiah Kianga and Julius Karangi.

Uhuru, the Nation reports, has entrusted Chief of Defense Forces General Samson Mwathethe, and has often been seen with him in State functions.

Recently, Uhuru was pictured inspecting projects at the coast with General Mwathethe, something which is rare among active military men.

In May this year, Uhuru extended Mwathethe's term by one more year even though the country is not in any immediate danger. His term will expire next year.

General Mwathethe will have a big say on his successor, who will run the show in 2022 when Kenya is expected to go for presidential polls.

National Intelligence Service Director Major General (Rtd) Phillip Kameru is another entrusted figure in Uhuru's goverment. He replaced Michael Gichangi in 2014.

Kameru, who served also as director of military intelligence, is responsible for all intelligence briefings for the head of state.

By the virtue of his office, he dictates the diary of the president having gathered intelligence reports from across the country.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to retire in 2022 and is currently busy running against time to stamp authority in his goverment and good legacy.
