A cloud of grief struck Hell's Gate National Park on Sunday afternoon after flash floods killed six tourists.
According to a survivor, Ivraj Singh Hayer, together with others, they had decided to tour the Olnjorowa gorges at the park and all was well until it started drizzling around 3 pm.
Hayer says he had doubts about the whole plan and at one time raised it with tour guides who assured him all was safe.
"Before I decided to take the detour…I was very inquisitive about the safety but they (guides) assured that it was well,” he stated.
Shortly after, he says raging waters flowed fast and furious sweeping all his relatives and his wife who he watched helplessly.
“Suddenly, the water started flowing downstream and me and my driver held at each other as my relatives were being swept away. It’s still difficult for me to understand how exactly this happened. We were trying not to get caught by the water but my family, they were taken one by one," Hayer narrated.
Hell’s Gate National Park is prone to floods during the rainy season especially due to the fact that it was once a tributary of Lake Naivasha.
