Police in Nakuru yesterday arrested 98 people accused of loitering and being drunk and disorderly. The arrest was made during a night operation carried out by regular and administration police led by Inspector Paul Omolo in a bid to curb crime in the city. The suspects were nabbed along the busy Kanu Street, Bondeni and other streets within the CBD commonly frequented by hundreds of commercial sex workers. Nakuru police boss Bernard Kioko said the suspects were taken to Nakuru Central Police Station as investigation are launched since most of them had questionable documents. "The matter is very sensitive at this point and we don't want to make their names public to avoid interfering with investigations. Some of their alleged relatives have already surrendered documents which are being scrutinised by investigators," said Kioko. During the operation that lasted past midnight, suspects were required to positively identify themselves by showing their identification documents and the reasons why they had not returned to their homes. Mr Kioko said the swoop is part of efforts to assure residents of security during the Christmas season. "Similar operations will be carried out indefinitely. We are determined to ensure our people are safe especially this Christmas season", assured Kioko.
