A 16-year-old girl living with disability has been burnt to death after the house she was living in with her parents caught fire at Kisumu Ndogo in Malindi Sub-county.
Mary Njoki, the mother to the deceased said that their two-bedroom house broke into huge flames while she was out buying breakfast for the girl on Monday morning while the father was out for his daily activities.Njoki said, “I was alarmed when I saw flames from a distance coming out from the sides of the house while returning from the shop. There was no fire burning by the time I was leaving the house for the shop because I had not lit any.”Despite responding in time, residents and the Malindi Sub-County fire brigade were unable to control the flames whose source is yet to be established, an incident that saw the minor burned beyond recognition.Malindi fire brigade officers asked residents to consider leaving passable paths when building their houses to allow fire brigades to easily access crisis areas."We were forced to lay pipes from a distance to the burning house for the path was too narrow for the brigade," said one of the officers.
