A police officer attached to Director of Criminal Investigations offices in Murang'a on Wednesday lost his loaded Ceska pistol under unclear circumstances.
The officer, reports indicate, had left the gun under his pillow case for a bathroom break but could not locate it when he returned to his house within police lines.
Intensive search was launched by his colleagues within police headquarters in Murang'a even as the matter was reported at Murang'a Police Station.
Until now, the pistol is yet to be recovered. Investigations have been launched targeting visitors who may have been within police lines when the incident happened.
“When he came from the bathroom, he could not trace the gun and moved around to checking who could have sneaked in his house in his absence,” one source said.
On Thursday, top security officers from Murang'a reportedly met to discuss the matter. Lose of a police gun is usually equated to national security threat. Fundamentally, Recovering the gun is a priority since it was loaded.
Murang’a East DCIO Juliana Muthini said investigations had been concluded and they were waiting for direction from their bosses.
“The file will be submitted to higher offices including director of public prosecution for advice as protocol demands,” said the DCIO.
The incident happens amid ongoing graft purge where the DCI officers across the country have bee tasked to lead the operations. George Kinoti has received a nod from President Uhuru Kenyatta to take corruption cases head-on.
