Today we are faced with new forms of colonialism which include:

1. Property colonialism

We neglect our locally made products and esteem imported commodities like “mitumba clothes”, household goods, foodstuffs, and furniture by believing that they are of superior quality.  This has lead to many challenges like unemployment and economic recessions due to death of local producers.

2. Medical and healthcare colonialism

If you check prescribed drugs place of manufacture, you definitely see that most of them are produced abroad in countries like India. Similarly, both the rich and the poor still go for medication abroad yet the county governments are spending a lot on healthcare.

3. Mental colonialism

We are in a country that depends highly on intelligence from abroad. We have neglected our cultural heritage to adopt new westernized cultures. We encourage students to work hard to study in the best universities abroad, we hire foreign personnel to head local institutions, and brought a system that uses the English language in education system among many others.

4. Foreign debts and aid colonialism

Kenya total debt owed to creditors abroad is ballooning. In the recent past, the Asian countries have become huge lenders to the Kenyan economy. Higher and new taxation are enacted by the government in order to repay them. This woes the potential investors away.  Aid is another form of colonialism where we highly depend on assistance and grants from abroad go fight diseases, for boosting the economy among others.
