There are many styles hawkers use when selling their different goods and assorted wares. However, last week, commuters traveling from Githurai to Nairobi CBD were treated to one of the funniest journeys of their life.
A hawker, whose name could not be identified claimed to have 'extra-ordinary' stationery that could only be found from him. He was selling pencils.
He used hilarious jokes to promote his pencil to his potential customers. While he cracked his jokes, the commuters couldn’t help but laugh all their hearts out. However, he urged them not to laugh.
“Just like we have World Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, tomorrow is Learner’s Day. I have been sent by the Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed, I was with her in North Italy,” claimed the hawker.
“Hii ni pencili, insha ya dakika 40, inaandika na dakika 8. Iko na rubber yenye mtoto haezi kula, iko na pilipili. Iko na tracker haiezi ibiwa, kwa shule mzima inajulikana ni ya mtoto wako, ata ikienda na headmaster (This is a pencil, Insha which takes 40 minutes this pencil will write it in 8 minutes. It has a rubber that a child cannot eat, it has pepper. It also has a tracker; it cannot be stolen in the whole school because it is known it belongs to your child even if it is taken by the headmaster,” he continued.
The passengers laughed uncontrollablly at the man's jokes. More so, the man went ahead to tell the passengers that he has made a living from this business.
“Kama sio hii mimi singekua hapa. Nimejenga nyumba Muthaiga na pia Kileleshwa niko na nyumba nane za kurent. Kila moja ni 150, 000 rent kwa siku. Watchman wangu ako na V8 na house girl wangu ako na Range Rover Sport,” joked the man.
Many passengers loved how this man promoted his pencils to them. He actually sold some of the pencils.
