An Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) assembly site has been destroyed by the police in the ongoing war against the terrorist group, Al-Shabaab.
The assembly site believed to belong to the Somalia-based terrorist group was destroyed in Gaame, Ijaara area in Garissa County.
Intelligence reports revealed that security agencies managed to recover weapons and explosives from the site.
The camp is believed to have also served as a health service centre used to treat wounded and sick Al-Shabaab militants.
The officers recovered ceftriaxone (Rocephin) at the scene, which is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.
“Weapons, explosives, electronics, large amounts of black explosive powder, foodstuffs and medicine were recovered from the scene,” read the intelligence report as quoted by nation.co.ke.
Last month, three Al-Shabaab militants were killed after they attacked a Border Patrol Unit (BDU) in Garissa County.
In the recent past, the militants planted IEDs on roads in different parts of North Eastern region targeting police officers and locals.
The government has however put measures in place to ensure the war against Al-Shabaab in the country is won as they urge locals especially those living in border towns to closely work with security officials by reporting any suspicious characters in their midst for action to be taken.
