The detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are on high alert as rogue millionaires from different parts of the nation rush to beat the old notes deadline.
It has now emerged that the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has already collected half of the old notes as the deadline nears.
The DCI is all eyes as some millionaires attempt to make suspicious transactions after the CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge maintained that the old notes deadline will not be extended in a bid to burst suspected millionaires in the nation.
Njoroge has also revealed that he is aware of some tycoons who want to convert more than Sh5 million into new notes ahead of the deadline.
He noted that they have shared the same information with the DCI to ensure that the suspects are arrested and charged.
“We have shared the information we have gathered so far with the DCI for further investigations. Our role as the regulator is to work with the investigating agencies to ensure that we achieve our goal,” Dr Njoroge said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Njoroge also said that the probe into suspicious activities. President Uhuru Kenyatta has supported the phasing out of the old notes saying it will help end graft in the country.
