In the past one year, Dr Ruto has made a combined trips of over 20 to coastal region, threatening to dislodge Mr Odinga as most preferred candidate in the region.

The team under Woman Representative Zuleikha Juma, briefed Mr Odinga about the land dispute between locals and Kwale International Sugar Company

"PL @RailaOdinga today received a delegation from Msambweni & Lunga Lunga Constituencies in Kwale led by Kwale Women Representative Zuleikha Juma Hassan who briefed him on the ongoing land dispute between residents and Kwale Sugar International Company Ltd," ODM party reported.

The region has been witnessing rebellion with a dozen of ODM elected leaders seemingly going slow on party activities with some reportedly joining Dr Ruto's camp.

While Governor Hassan Joho has been defending the party policies, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya is a close ally of Dr Ruto. Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has been lately leaning towards DP Ruto.

Early this year, embattled Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa went offensive on Raila, accusing him of plotting to kick her out of the party despite unclear instructions on the rules of engagement on Handshake.

"When we shake hands with the Deputy President, we are being expelled while Mr Odinga has shaken hands with President Kenyatta," said Jumwa.

She added: "We want to know what this handshake is all about? Is it for uniting Kenyans or a few people?"

Although Jumwa has since been expelled from the party, Odinga is keen to extend his dominance in the region thus the ongoing indoor meetings. Last week, he also met Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja.
