Veteran politician Koigi Wamwere has raised concerns over the democracy of the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) debate held on Saturday at Mombasa. Through a Facebook post on Sunday, the renowned author noted that the meeting was undemocratic.
According to Wamwere, despite ODM leader Raila Odinga saying the meeting belongs to people, no common man had a chance to speak. He, therefore, urged the state to permit parallel meetings in the future.
"The spirit of the Mombasa meeting was undemocratic, silencing the people and excluding many leaders from speaking. If there will be another meeting to debate BBI, like, during the 2005 Referendum, parallel meetings should be allowed to give everybody a voice in the national debate to discuss constitutional changes. If not, BBI will only deliver us the third dictatorship," Koigi Wamwere wrote.
Wamwere who claimed the BBI meeting was about Raila, further questioned President Uhuru Kenyatta on the funds being used on such meetings. The Mombasa meeting was attended by TangaTanga team politicians led by Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
"Finally, Raila has announced that Uhuru has instructed him to hold national BBI rallies all over the country. With corruption skyrocketing, is Uhuru using unauthorised state funds to finance their BBI rallies without people’s consent, to lay a foundation for their 2022 presidential campaigns?" Wamwere posed.
