In an interview with NTV’s Am Live, Otiende said that the government needs to investigate the circumstances behind the incident.

The lawmaker said that it is saddening for the nation to lose such brilliant youths to disaster.

He reminded the officers tasked with the protection of public resources to take action with immediate effect.

He asked the national government to review the decision before it is too late.

“Public space is a challenge, because land that was reserved for that purpose was grabbed and land in Nairobi is very expensive. This issue should be reviewed and land should be allocated for public schools,” he said.

He questioned why the contractor decided to reinforce the building using chicken wire, noting that it was a recipe for the disaster.

He also said that to make matters worse, the quality of the wire was too low to sustain a building.

“The building’s slab was reinforced with chicken wire, and even that chicken wire is low gauge,” he said.

His Tongaren Counterpart Eseli Simiyu asked the government not to let the issue go unhandled.

“The National Construction Authority should be put to task and we should also know why that ward doesn’t have a public school,” he said.
