Late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso’s husband Edwin Abonyo has downplayed any possibility of getting another wife from the fallen governor’s family.

The suggestion was thrown at him by his brother Aggrey, during Laboso’s burial ceremony in Fort Ternan, Kisumu County on Saturday.

“Edwin jo Sotik gi oheri kabisa, donge ineno, koro an gima akwayi, inbe imed hero gi mondo ginbe gimed hero wa, donge ineno, to koro okangey'o od cha ber ndi, ibi ipenji akya ni yuoche gi bende ikendo ga? Koro okinyal dak e od cha kendi. (Edwin, the people of Sotik love you so much. So my request to you is to continue loving them so that they continue loving us. That house is very nice and I think you cannot stay in that house alone),” said Aggrey in Dholuo.

In a quick rejoinder, Abonyo told his brother that he will be able to survive.

“Thank you very much the Laboso family, and indeed I will not abandon you. My brother came with a suggestion but he doesn’t live with you people so he doesn’t know you will forgive him. The good thing it was relayed in Luo so you don’t know,” said Abonyo.

“But Aggrey thank you for the care and concern that you have for me. But I will be able to survive. That one I can tell you,” he added.

Last week, Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu urged Abonyo not to marry another woman.

“Edwin, there can never be another Joyce. You still remain a young handsome man. They will be there (women) looking for you. Please keep Joyce’s name and take care of her children and her home,” Ngilu said.
